Forward House Supportive Recovery Housing
Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024
1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Forward House Ministries is a faith-based charitable organization that offers an abstinence-based supportive recovery housing program in Elmwood for adult men with a history of substance use disorder. To be eligible, applicants must complete a first-stage treatment program and be referred from that agency. Forward House strives to build on the tools and knowledge that individuals obtain during their initial treatments by offering lengths of stay between six (6) months and three (3) years, allowing participants time to transition from the highly structured programs they are exiting to eventual independence in the community. We promote recovery and design our programs using a holistic approach, acknowledging the important connections between physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Regenesis Centre for Recovery (RCR) is the first program in Canada to provide live-in substance addiction recovery services specifically developed for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. RCR offers Wraparound Secondary Care (WSC), a model aiming to extend structured recovery time by bridging the gap between primary treatment programs and reintegration into the greater community. This presentation will provide an overview of the importance of 2SLGBTQIA+ specialized care within the substance use and addiction crisis. We will describe the successes and challenges experienced in the last two years as well our vision for the future.
