Drug Checking Harm Reduction Services at Street Connections – Winnipeg Regional Health Authority

Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024

1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Street Connections is a public health team in the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority that works to address sexually transmitted infection rates through testing, treatment and harm reduction. As of June 2024, the team extended its harm reduction activities to include drug checking services. Drug checking is a process of using specialized equipment to determine the chemical substances present in a drug, while engaging with clients in a confidential manner to provide harm reduction messaging, overdose prevention supplies, and referrals to related services. This session will explain how the WRHA’s Street Connections drug checking program works and share front line experiences.
