About Us
Our team consists of neurosurgical and orthopedic spine surgeons, specially trained physiotherapists, physician assistants, and nurses. We provide assessments for both operative and non-operative management of spinal disorders, including common degenerative spinal disorders, scoliosis, spine tumours, infections, trauma, and other spine conditions.
Our surgeons are experienced across a breadth of surgical procedures, including minimally invasive surgery, traditional open surgery, endoscopic surgery, and management of complex tumours, trauma, and deformity cases. We operate out of three adult sites across Manitoba (Health Sciences Centre, Concordia Hospital, and Maples Surgical Centre) and one pediatric site (HSC Winnipeg Children’s Hospital).
We also provide opportunities for resident physicians and fellows to learn about the care of spine patients and are involved in multiple clinical research projects, animal studies, and industry-sponsored studies.
Fellowship Opportunities
Winnipeg Spine Fellowship
The Spine Program is proud to offer a one-year complex spine fellowship through the University of Manitoba. The fellowship provides a comprehensive experience in the management of degenerative conditions, trauma, tumors, deformity, and pediatric spine surgery. Spine surgeons with orthopedic and neurosurgical backgrounds perform approximately 1200 spine cases per year. Our fellows are actively engaged in the surgical management of our patients. Our facility will allow for exposure to traditional open techniques, minimally invasive surgery, and endoscopic surgery along with training in modern intraoperative imaging and navigation techniques.
The program also provides a robust educational curriculum that will fulfill the needs of modern spine training. The curriculum integrates didactic lectures presented by faculty, case presentations, clinical controversy rounds, journal club, and M&M rounds. In addition, fellows are welcome to participate in spine oncology rounds in conjunction with radiation oncology. A wide breadth of topics will be covered to maximize learning about key concepts in the modern treatment of spinal conditions.
We welcome North American and international graduates of orthopedic or neurosurgery programs to apply for a fellowship position. Up to three candidates will be selected each year.
If you are interested in the fellowship, please contact the fellowship administrator at [email protected].
We look forward to meeting you!
