Dr. Jose Francois
Dr. Jose Francois is the Provincial Chief Medical Officer for Shared Health and a bilingual family physician from Ste. Anne. Dr. Francois holds a number of academic and clinical leadership roles in addition to providing care at Centre de santé St. Boniface, Victoria Hospital and Actionmarguerite. He was most recently Shared Health’s provincial medical specialty lead for family medicine and also served as acting medical specialty lead for emergency medicine. Dr. Francois is also an associate professor in the department of family medicine at the University of Manitoba’s Max Rady College.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Francois has promoted strong roles for family physicians in hospitals and long-term care, led expansions for training, sparked improvements for international medical graduates and advocated for improved models of care. He was also instrumental in the development of a bilingual family medicine residency program in Manitoba.
In 2024, Dr. Francois was named Physician of the Year by Doctors Manitoba, an honour extended in recognition of his clinical and academic contributions in areas as diverse as the recruitment and retention of family physicians, expansion of training opportunities, improvements for international medical graduates, and innovative research.
