ACS Network Heart Attack Day 2024
Each year, St. Boniface Hospital treats over 2,000 heart attack patients. The Manitoba ACS (Acute Coronary Syndrome) Network is dedicated to improving outcomes for these patients. Our network aims to ensure that all heart attack patients across the province receive care that is based on the latest guidelines, is delivered optimally, consistently, and safely. We implement Recommended Standards and Algorithms, review local protocols, partner with EMS (Emergency Medical Services), and report on key performance indicators to maintain high-quality care. Additionally, we have established strong connections with healthcare providers who serve Indigenous patients, ensuring their unique needs are addressed.
The ACS Network’s Heart Attack Day is an initiative designed to equip healthcare professionals with the tools they need to overcome systemic barriers and access necessary resources for their patients. This event is targeted at Manitoba’s physicians, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, cardiology technologists, paramedics, and educators, focusing on the optimal care for heart attack patients.
Objectives
• To highlight recent changes in practice for managing ACS patients, from pre-hospital care to rehabilitation.
• To enhance the diagnosis, triage, treatment, and follow-up capabilities for patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-STEMI (NSTEMI).
• To understand the unique challenges and recent initiatives aimed at addressing service gaps in rural ACS healthcare.
• To explore the challenges and opportunities for improving care for ACS patients post-discharge.
