As we confront data revealing the presence of racism within our healthcare system, we recognize that this can bring up a wide range of strong and deeply personal emotions. For some, this information may come as a shock, stirring feelings of discomfort, guilt, or defensiveness. However, it can also serve as a catalyst for deeper empathy, strengthened allyship, and a meaningful commitment to change. This data may validate long-held experiences, but it can also be painful, bringing forth feelings of anger, frustration, sadness, and fear.
We acknowledge the emotional impact this may have on each of you and the courage it takes to confront these truths. Please remember, you are not alone in this journey. As we move forward together in our work towards equity and healing, we encourage you to prioritize your well-being—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically—and to support one another with care and compassion.
