Wellbeing Leader, Shared Health

Hello, I’m Shon Ilett. My background is in paramedicine and psychology, with a Master of Business in Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology. I have spent 12 years working for British Columbia Emergency Health Services as a paramedic, educator, and manager in multiple locations in BC, including Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, and the Okanagan. Outside of my Wellbeing Leader role, I still hold an active paramedic license and provide casual paramedic support to the Southern Health region.

Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about bio-psycho-social balance, trauma resiliency, PTSD, and critical incident stress management. Working with diverse healthcare teams, I have become increasingly aware of the challenges of the healthcare environment related to traumatization, burnout, and compassion fatigue. It has become my goal to normalize conversations about mental wellbeing and work-life balance, and to support long-term careers in healthcare. I hope to do this by approaching staff with empathy, respect, clear communication, and accessibility.

In my role as a Wellbeing Leader, I am committed to creating spaces that normalize discussions around wellbeing in a preventative manner, and to providing resources and tools that promote long-term success in healthcare.

In my free time, I volunteer with Wounded Warriors Canada as a Trauma Resiliency trainer and help govern Forging Ahead, a charity that works with veterans and first responders living with PTSD and OSI, using art-based techniques centered around blacksmithing and craftsmanship. I also enjoy playing guitar, board games (Magic, DnD, etc.), weightlifting, and spending time with my two poodles doing various dog events. These things have always been core to my bio-psycho-social wellbeing and personal joy, and have strengthened my mental health.

I look forward to working with, supporting, and connecting with staff throughout Shared Health. Together, we can develop wellbeing knowledge and empathy in healthcare.
