  • Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Osteoporosis – Winnipeg Regional Health Authority
    This document, based on the 2010 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Osteoporosis in Canada, is designed to provide an evidence-based process to identify and treat osteoporosis.
  • Osteoporosis Canada (OC)
    The Osteoporosis Canada website, Osteoporosis Online, provides up-to-date information on the risks, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.  The Organization works with health care professionals across Canada to ensure the latest prevention, diagnostic and treatment guidelines are available to physicians in their clinical practice.
  • Osteoporosis Canada’s revised “2010 clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in Canada”, published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal 2010 Nov 23;182(17):1864-73
  • WHO Fracture Risk Assessment Tool for Canada (FRAX)
    The Canadian FRAX® tool has been developed by WHO to evaluate fracture risk in Canada. It is based on individual patient models that integrate the risks associated with clinical risk factors as well as bone mineral density (BMD) at the femoral neck. The FRAX® models have been developed from studying population-based cohorts from Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. In their most sophisticated form, the FRAX® tool is computer-driven and is available on this site. Several simplified paper versions, based on the number of risk factors are also available, and can be downloaded for office use. The FRAX® algorithms give the 10-year probability of fracture. The output is a 10-year probability of hip fracture and the 10-year probability of a major osteoporotic fracture (clinical spine, forearm, hip or shoulder fracture).
  • International Society for Clinical Densitometry
    The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) is a multidisciplinary, nonprofit organization that provides a central resource for a number of scientific disciplines with an interest in bone mass measurement. The Society was founded in June 1993 as the result of a meeting of a group who recognized the need to bring disciplines together for this single purpose. The Society was the first of its kind worldwide. The ISCD Web site is designed to provide educational and networking resources to current and prospective ISCD members and those interested in the field of skeletal assessment.
