Active Offer Training
What is Active Offer?
Bilingual health authorities are required by law to offer services in both official languages to the public through the concept of Active Offer. Access to health services in one’s own language is about equity, quality of care and patient safety. By providing an Active Offer of French language services, the French-speaking population of Manitoba can be made to feel that it is indeed a constituent part of one of the fundamental characteristics of Canada.
An active offer of French language services means:
- Providing quality service in the official language of the clientele’s choice
- Making this service evident, readily available, and easily accessible to the client
- Providing a comparable service in both official languages for all oral, written, and electronic communications related to the service.
Active Offer Training
The Active Offer in Healthcare online LMS courses (English – LMS-2016 or French: LMS-2034) provide healthcare staff with essential practices for actively offering services in French. The courses briefly cover the requirements of the French Language Services (FLS) Policy and the Francophone Community Enhancement and Support Act, highlighting their relevance to employees in their daily work and interactions. The training is a self-directed online course that takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete and is intended to enhance our collective ability to serve French-speaking patients in a meaningful way. The Active Offer in Healthcare training is required LMS training course for all newly-hired staff members as part of the new employee orientation and must be retaken every two years.
