Diabetes
Advanced Glucose Monitors
Manitoba Pharmacare has extended coverage for advanced glucose monitors (AGMs) to all adults with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes and who meet the established clinical criteria.
The Exception Drug Status Request Pre-Approval Form is no longer required when prescribing AGMs to eligible patients.
Who is eligible for the AGM program?
Individuals with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes requiring the use of insulin and who meet the eligibility criteria are eligible for an AGM through the Pharmacare Program.
What types of AGM are included?
Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) and Flash Glucose Monitors (FGM) are covered for all eligible Manitobans.
What is the process for a patient obtaining an AGM device?
With the removal of the previously required pre-approval, patients who meet the eligibility criteria may be provided a prescription for an AGM. Once a patient has a prescription, they can obtain an AGM device from an approved vendor or through a pharmacy of their choosing. Patients who choose to purchase through a device vendor directly can submit their receipt for reimbursement and/or have it applied toward their Pharmacare deductible.

Manitoba Adult Insulin Pump Program (MAIPP)
Manitoba Health has expanded coverage for eligible Manitobans with Type 1 Diabetes who are 18 years of age and older to access Insulin Pumps.
Patients will require pre-approval from an endocrinologist or Diabetes Specialist before ordering/accessing an insulin pump. Insulin pump therapy may not be appropriate for all patients.

How do I refer a patient to the Manitoba Adult Insulin Pump Program?
Requests can be submitted using the Manitoba Adult Insulin Pump Program Patient Referral Form, which can be found in the Manitoba Forms Repository of your Manitoba Certified EMR.

CancerCare Manitoba and Shared Health are leading Manitoba’s transition to centralized colorectal cancer screening using the fecal immunochemical test (FIT). FIT will replace the guaiac fecal occult blood test (gFOBT) that is currently in use.
