Innovations in Mental Health & Addictions Learning Series – PreVenture: A Partnership Between Shared Health and River East Transcona School Division
PreVenture is an evidence-based prevention program that aims to promote mental health and delay substance use among youth. During two brief personality-focused workshops, certified PreVenture facilitators impart youth with adaptive coping skills as they guide them in thoughtful discussions about the challenges they are facing and assist them in exploring the unique features of their personalities. Youth are encouraged to set long-term goals and learn skills to help them channel their personality towards pursuing and attaining their goals. PreVenture was evaluated in multiple randomized control trials in Canada, Australia, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom and has been recognized by several leading authorities such as, the World Health Organization (WHO) UNESCO, the UNODC and the US Surgeon General.
Preventure is being piloted in River East Transcona School Division in collaboration with Shared Health’s School Based Substance Use Services and the Early Response Service. Join us to learn more about this unique pilot program for grade 7 students.
