The Ultrasound-Guided Procedures Course is a hands-on educational program designed for emergency and critical care physicians who want to develop practical skills in high-yield ultrasound-guided procedures.

Participants will learn the core principles of ultrasound mechanics, artifact recognition, needle visualization, anatomical orientation and procedural safety.

The course includes hands-on scanning of live models for anatomical orientation and landmark identification, followed by practical needle guidance and procedural training using specialized simulators, task trainers and cadavers.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Apply ultrasound guidance to high-yield procedures including:
  • Central venous catheterization
  • Difficult peripheral IV access
  • Thoracentesis
  • Paracentesis
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Arthrocentesis
• Apply principles of procedural safety during ultrasound-guided procedures.
• Demonstrate optimal dynamic needle visualization using both in-plane and out-of-plane techniques.
• Identify relevant vascular and fluid anatomy using ultrasound.
• Apply core principles of ultrasound mechanics and artifact recognition.
• Use ultrasound to support anatomical orientation and procedural landmarking.
